If a cure was found for cancer or aids do you think.....?

Question

If a cure was found for cancer or aids do you think.....?
It would hurt the world population in the long run? If the death rate went down suddenly wouldnt the world have a population explosion? More people to feed, less space, more offspring that wouldnt have been otherwise. Is finding a cure for major illnesses a good thing? I have a major illness myself, and would forgo a cure if it meant the world would be better off.

Answer

The fact of the matter is that we are now FURTHER from being overpopulated than we have EVER been in all of human history.brbrNow, I know that youre first reaction to that statement might be, quotHow can that be? There are more people alive now than ever!quot And this is certainly true. But most people have that fact backwards. There is a REASON why there werent ten billion people alive a thousand years ago they had already reached the limit.brbrIn nature, when a population approaches the maximum capacity, something comes up to stop it from growing more as many have noted. It runs out of food. Disease spreads. Predators start to multiply. But this is not the case for us we are eliminating disease, making predators extinct, and now have more overweight than starving people for the first time ever.brbrThe growth of our technology and our ability to survive has EXCEEDED the growth of our population, and has for most of living memory now. It wasnt so long ago that more than of the population had to be farmers or everyone would starve. Now its between . Not only do we have more people, those people can do more things.brbrSo no. I dont think cures for diseases are a problem in the long run. Because they tend to come along with new ways to farm, new things to grow, new places to live, and better ways of living as well. For all we know, the next person to die of cancer might also have something fantastic to contribute to ALL of us, if only he had lived. I intend to do my best to make it so! Peace.
